I like having a Blu-ray player, but it freezes up too much. Although we're not very patient people either, and when it's slow we keep pushing buttons. But, to wait 10 minutes for something to load is ridiculous. I don't like staring at black screens.

Plays Blu Ray movies almost instantly, high quality, upconverting is solid, installs in minutes, and looks great. Great if you don't need internet.

I got this blue ray player several weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with it. This is my first blue ray, so I don't have anything to compare. The picture quality is much better than my older DVD player, and you can definitely see the difference with BR movies. I do notice some picture quality improvement with regular DVD's, but it's not a huge difference. Sound quality is much better than my old DVD player ... I noticed that right away. Set up was a breeze! I haven't uploaded any firmware yet and the player has played every BR movie I've loaded. Loading time is acceptable ... a bit slower than my old DVD player, but not by much. I don't really care much about internet access or netflix, so I went with a bisic player for my first blue ray. And I'm happy with it so far. I've owned other LG products (incl. a LG LCD), and I think the quality is very good.

For some reason, I have bad luck with DVD players. After 8-12 months, they quit loading and playing most of my DVDs. It's happened now about four times. I had to scrap my Samsung Blu-Ray player after 11 months and wanted something that didn't cost very much if I had to replace the new one in a year or so.
The BD270 fit the bill perfectly. The setup was a snap: from box to playing a movie took maybe fifteen minutes, part of which was reading the manual.
There are two things about this player that I REALLY like: the fast loading of DVDs and the zoom features. Loading a DVD was the fastest of the several players I've had. And the zoom feature gives you more control over how to view 4:3 and 2.35:1 content. You can zoom a little or a lot in small increments. I'm watching now for the 17th time the "Winds and War" and "War and Remembrance" series, and the incremental zoom allows me to watch the 4:3 content by almost filling my 16:9 TV without any distortion or loss of resolution.
If you're on a budget, like simplicity, but still want to watch great video, this is a unit to consider.
(There's no Internet interface, but that's something I don't use anyway. I couldn't rate the sound since I take my sound from the TV using analog audio cables to my bookshelf mini stereo system.)
By the way, this is the fourth LG product I have: my TV is a 42" LG 1080p 120 Hz LED (great set), my monitor is a 17" LG, I have an external LG DVD/CD drive, and now the Blu-Ray player. LG seems to know what they're doing without breaking our budgets.

Bought this unit to go along with my new LDTV It will not play bluray movies, it will play the previews just not the MOVIE !!!.Contacted LG cust. serv. they said it was a firmware update issue that they don't have a solution for in the forseeable future. So I have a $200 Blu-Ray player that DOESNT read/play Blu-Ray disc's, Oh and the remote also doesn't work and their sending me a new one.
So unless your willing to spend over $400 for a Blu-Ray unit it's a TOTAL CRAPSHOOT if you'll get one from ANY manufacturer that will work properly. Trust me I've read nearly every amazon review on every player.
Get a high priced player or wait fot the technology to catch up.Don't buy this or any other cheap player or you'll be sorry like the rest of us.YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !
