The Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player combines high quality images with enhanced networking functions. Continuing its commitment to producing products that stress ease of use, the 2009 line of Blu-ray Disc players continue to incorporate VIERA Link, allowing the consumer to operate their audio/video components, via HDMI, with one remote. And, in keeping with Panasonic’s pledge to reduce the planet’s carbon footprint, the new Blu-ray players have been designed to reduce power consumption.

Experience Movies Like Never Before
The DMP-BD60 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film. Recognizing that audio is important to the overall entertainment experience, this Blu-ray Disc player features a high definition audio decoder (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high quality 7.1 channel surround sound now integrated in Blu-ray Discs.

Experience Movies Like Never Before
The DMP-BD60 includes an SD Memory card slot and USB slot, making it easy for the consumer to view and share both digital still images and HD video recorded with an HD camcorder in the AVCHD format.

In order to produce the ultimate picture quality, the Panasonic’s DMP-BD60 Blu-ray players employs high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction, to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel.

Panasonic’s Blu-ray players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p. The Blu-ray players also provide 1080/24p output, thereby reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion. This allows the user to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p compatible TV.

Complimenting the HD audio codecs this Blu-ray player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.

ENERGY STAR Rated
In order to obtain a reduction in power consumption the Panasonic DMP-BD60 uses Auto Power Stand-By, a function that automatically turns off the player when you return to TV operation using the VIERA Link menu. In addition, the Stand-by Power Save automatically turns off the player’s Quick Start function. When VIERA is turned on, Quick Start also turns on. In addition, the development of the UniPhier single chip LSI makes it possible to pack an entire video signal processing circuit onto a single chip. This helps lower power consumption, reduces the number of parts needed and allows for a more compact design. In fact, the DMP-BD60 consumes 16% less power in standby mode than last year’s model, the DMP-BD35.

"Very good blu ray player" 2010-01-10
By Ed (St Louis, Mo)
Heard all the hype and finally broke down and purchased this machine. Really a outstanding blu ray player from a video perspective. Up conversion very good. My only issue was the lack of quality audio using the 7.1 analog connections. I have a Rotel 1067 receiver that lacks hdmi connections, but would not even think about replacing it. The Rotel delivers all the time. The audio dacs in the Oppo could of been better. I listen to a lot of sacd music and just could not justify keeping this unit, due to the audio performance. I did see Oppo came out with a new version player, that has top of the line audio dacs for people like me who have to use 7.1 analog connections, but they have doubled the price. The addional price to improve just the audio portion sounds a little steep. For people who have a receiver with hdmi, I say go for the Oppo BDP-83.

 "Good Bye PS3!" 2010-01-10
By RD (Miami,FL)
I will be very short with the review. The picture quality of the player well, everybody know about that but when I the sound came out from my Klipsch speakers I said "Now this thing is a double keeper" now I watch all of my blu rays concerts in Direct or Stereo or Pure Direct modes. I was never a fan of watching concerts in 5.1 since concerts are not recorded in 5.1 they are transfer to that when they make the blu ray. With the PS3 it didn't make a difference, everything sounded the same to me. So far this is the best Blu ray player I have heard when it comes to sound. The picture I would say is about 5% better than the PS3. Since I have a 100" screen pair with the JVS RS2 1080p projector that 5% increase in picture quality is like a 10% on a regular plasma. For me 5% better picture on 100" movie screen is worth $499. PS3 is out of the house already. Thank you OPPO

"Wow...a high end Blue ray for a low price" 2010-01-08
By John Schoener (Union,Ky)
This product has performed beyond my expectations.

It is used on a high-end Home Theater system and has proved to perform at the expected system's sound and picture quality levels.

I especially like the menu set up to adjust the sound quality specifically to my system.

construction - good

ease of use - good

operation - great, loaded some blu-ray dics that even challenged the PS3 to play and it performed solidly.

 "Great Player" 2010-01-07
By City Worker (Upstate NY)
This is the player to get if you want a player to play all your video and audio disc's.I did some researching and compared other players and found out the Oppo had the best ratings among most of the other players near this price range. It loads very fast and the picture on my 46in LED looks like 3D.You can't go wrong buying the OPPO.The extra cost of this player is well worth it. My regular DVD's look alot better than they did on my old player a samsung 2550.

"OPPO WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD." 2010-01-07
By D. R. Yap (Miami Florida. U.S.A.)
All the hype, great review, best bluray player and the other good things said about oppo BDP-83 are all true.I will not go into details, but I will make a point. In October of 2008.I went on a five week tour of CHINA with twenty five family and friends. The tour operator had someone taking video of our trip.To make a long story short, when I got home I tried to play the two dvd in my SONY BDP-S300 blu ray player.Suprisingly one played, the other said CANNOT READ.I then put them away.In March of 2009 a friend of mine bought a Samsung BDP-2500.I tried playing the dvd from China, the same thing happened, one played and the other didnt. On November 4,I bought the OPPO BDP-83 from Amazon.com THE player came four days ahead of schedule date.It took about half an hour to install.Had to remove the old sony player. The first bluray movie I watched was S.W.A.T. I felt I was with the cops in the shoot out.I think no I know I bought the BEST DANG BLURAY PLAYER THIS SIDE OF THE UNIVERSE...So for what its worth. If you are thinking of buying a bluray player THINK NO MORE,,,BUY THE OPPO BDP-83.You will not regret it....P.S.Both d.v.d. from China played on my OPPO without a burp.LOVE MY OPPO..

"Ececellent purchase.Wish they would run the same price. I would buy 3 Sony's Bravia" 2010-01-10
By Tami Anderson
The T.V. is an excellent buy for the money. The picture is excellent. I got a great price too. If they run the same price I would buy 3 more. I just love this T.V. Can't beat the quality.

 "A great Blu-Ray player!" 2010-01-10
By M. Morawey
I wanted a Blu-Ray player which would connect wirelessly to the internet for updates and downloads of movies. I also wanted a machine which would connect directly to my HDTV with HDMI cable and would allow sound to be run from the TV to my Audio/Video tuner via fiberoptics to play through my 7.1 speaker system.

This Sony 560 met every one of those requirements. Not only that, the set up and installation went very smoothly for a person like me who has only a moderate grasp on things technical. Once set up it successfully accessed my AT&T UVerse modem. For me, any machine that actually allows SUCCESSFUL set up without requiring a technical degree is tops in my book.

I have only had the machine since Christmas but so far it has shined in playing both Blu-Ray and DVD movies. I highly recommend this product.

"Does not stream internet video!!" 2010-01-10
By Stephen B. Tatter (Winston-Salem, NC USA)
Surprisingly, the Sony BDP-S560 does not stream online video from popular commerical services like Amazon Video-On-Demand. Even the latest upgrade to the firmware does not allow Netflix, Amazon, or any other streaming service to function.

The absence of the ability to stream video makes the built in WiFi, nearly pointless (the only use seems to be to access BD Live content available on some blu-ray discs).

The less expensive Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) with a WiFi adapter (Linksys by Cisco WET610N Wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band is preprogrammed to work with the N-460) or a dedicated Roku HD-XR Player unit is apparently a better choice for those desiring streaming video over WiFi.

"I feel like the unit is a giant black hole for time and money." 2010-01-10
By Alan O.
I've returned three of these, each attempted install resulted in different problems from not powering on, jittery video and ultimately completely locking up.

I changed cables, changed videos, before and after updates. Each time I thought, "Gosh, this is a strong manufacturer so it must be a rare coincidence." Rare coincidence or not, I won't be trying a fourth.

I wish I hadn't tried this unit because the experience I had looked forward to is soured. My inevitable next purchase will carry that negative memory with it...and that's not what a purchase is supposed to be like. It raises the question, "How many negative experience does it take to ruin your impression and expectations of a brand?" I don't know if I'll buy Sony again. It may not bother them, but this product isn't a bargain choice and in this economy I want to spend my money on people who take as much pride in their work as I do my own.

"Wireless, but no streaming, no Netflix" 2010-01-07
By Jeff Greaves
My mistake I suppose. I assumed wireless would allow me to use this to stream Netflix, but no such luck.
